Sea Otters by Tom H

Sea otters are animals that cannot breathe as long as they want like fish. They go under water to get food or to hide.

Food
Sea otters eat mussels fish and octopus. Otters find octopus in cans at the bottom of the sea.

Pups
Sea otters pups have yellow fur when they are born. They like to play hide and seek with their friends. Pups sleep on tangles of seaweed. The pups learn to float by themselves when they are fluffed by their mother. Pups never meet their father. The father leaves after mating.

Where Sea Otters Live
Sea otters don’t live under water, they sleep on top. They sleep on top because they can’t breathe as long as they want.

Enemies
The Great White Shark, Eagles, fishermen and hunters attack sea otters. Fishermen kill Sea otters for eating the shellfish. Hunters kill otters just for something to do. The eagle and great white shark are natural predators.

Size and Shape
Sea otters are four feet long. Their ears and nose can close so that they don’t get water in their nose and ears.

Sea otters have claws like cats because they go in and out. I think sea otters are amazing because they use tools like they are mini people.

  1. Tom - this is a well written report and gives your reader loads of interesting information. Well done organising your information using headings. I thought you wrote a nice evaluative statement too - I think otters are amazing too and I spent a long time watching them when I was at the Singapore zoo last year.
